One of the major health challenges facing the world today is cancer. A disease with a profound socio-economic impact which, despite the progress in medical science, continues to affect millions of people every year. In the face of this challenge, information and awareness initiatives are of particular value.
Towards this end, C.A.PAPAELLINAS Group implements the pioneering programme The Colono45, actively participating in the effort to prevent colon cancer. A condition that is the third most common malignancy in humans and the most common malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract worldwide.
The Colono45 programme aims to raise awareness about colon cancer among the employees of the Group, but also to highlight the importance of screening colonoscopy. Aimed at prevention, which can save lives, colonoscopy can detect 90-95% of precancerous polyps and colon cancer.
More specifically, as part of the programme and in the context of the broader array of benefits to its human resources, the Group undertook the full cost of colonoscopy screening for all employees aged 45 and above. Moreover, an information event was held at the Group’s Head Offices, with gastroenterologist Dr. Demetrios Demetriou as the main speaker.
The programme was implemented with the support of gastroenterologists Dr. Demetrios Demetriou and Dr. Andreas Vanezos.
A benefit of screening with colonoscopy is that colon cancer can be detected at an early stage, increasing the chance for an easier and more successful therapy, even for a cure. Screening colonoscopy can detect 350-400 new early-stage cancer cases per year in Cyprus. The Colono45 programme was launched in April 2023 with the participation of 58 employees of C.A.PAPAELLINAS Group aged 45 and above. Its implementation reflects the Group’s commitment to promoting and improving the health and quality of life of its employees, in line with its mission: to help more and more people live and feel better.
