At our Group, the commitment to Sustainable Development is rooted at the heart of our business culture, social role and business responsibility. We strongly believe that Sustainable Development is meaningful only if it is built on business ethics, social solidarity, and respect for the environment.
Guided by the belief that our Organisation’s prosperity is inextricably linked with the prosperity of society and the planet, we have undertaken major initiatives reflecting our values and expectations for a better future.
Through this insert, we want to showcase and promote the voices of our colleagues, their own perspective, by asking them three simple questions. We hope to inspire more and more people about a better and more sustainable society.
Today we continue with our colleague Eleni Markides, who holds the position of General Manager Butterfly.
1)What does Sustainability mean to you?
-Sustainability aims at the most beneficial outcome for both people and the natural environment. That is the successful balance between raw material production and use. Sustainability begins with the protection and support of the environment, followed by the improvement of the society’s living standards and, lastly, the economic development. These three key factors are interdependent and have either a positive or negative impact on each other.
2)What sustainable practices do you follow in your everyday life?
-Recycling to the best of my ability, such as throwing out garbage only in designated recycling bins. I participate in tree planting projects and, more generally, I respect the environment with simple everyday habits, e.g. saving energy by unplugging appliances, switching off plug sockets, and turning lights off when not in use.
3)What have you learned as a member of our Group about Sustainability?
-I’ve gained more knowledge about environmental protection and its impact on both people and businesses. I’ve also learned that each of us, through simple everyday actions, can help protect our planet.
